is passing under a deafening silence of public opinion and yet another unheard ecological and environmental destruction in our country, supported and justified by the ever untouchable dogma of Development.
This time the victim chosen is the province of Cremona, which, almost careless, he finds himself undergoing a massive eco monster on its territory. The case is emblematic of Cremona to show the practice of imposing on the head of the pharaonic infrastructure from the environmental community and existential devastating for the profit of a few. A story that deserves to be shown on the bottom. The final draft of the new infrastructure (the so-called "third bridge over the Po"), commissioned by the company Autostrade Centropadane, involves the construction of a highway in payment of 12 km linking the provinces of Piacenza and Cremona, and a new 200 meter bridge with piers in the water on the Po , crossing the wetlands and approximately 9 km of rural areas of Castelvetro Piacentino.
The expected impact will be devastating.
addition to the removal of soil (almost 300 acres of riverside areas, agricultural areas of great value) followed by fractionation and usability of agricultural areas, will be distorted by the EU three protected areas, fragmented habitat of 1000 hectares of play and lost tens of thousands of protected animals (birds and fish). For the uninitiated a few hundred meters from the area, thanks to the foresight of town and country planning work of previous administrations, in Cremona were approved over the years a refinery (Tamoil), a storage of liquefied gases (Abibes) and a LPG bottling plant (Liquigas), all establishments classified by the Legislative Decree 334/99 as a category C-Seveso, places where dangerous substances are present in such quantities as to constitute a risk of a major accident. " In addition
that, in order not to fail anything, in the same area were also authorized the company SOL (production storage and release of liquefied gases in cylinders), the mill pumpkin, and the steel pipe factory Arvedi (recently expanded its landfill 250,000 cubic meters) and the silos of plastic materials of the multinational Katoen Natie.
Everything is at a ridiculous distance from the town, that compromising compatibility with a minimum quality of life. Not even a crazy plan could do better! At this point, think to pass in the midst of this tinderbox a highway to six lanes wide to 50 feet is really too much. The purpose of this is the usual to streamline the heavy traffic and not to speed the transport of goods, particularly in an area not blocked, since it has about 3000 vehicles per day (reduced by 10% in recent years). The project included a 2005 traffic to 2020 of 12,000 vehicles per day, that of 2008 has moved to 2033 estimates, increasing the flow to 43,000 vehicles per day. Even the final draft of 31/03/10 does not cite any study to date on traffic flow! This project disproportionate costs (we are talking about 200 million euro), driven directly by the company that builds the infrastructure and unrelated to any regional planning, has entirely failed to take into account the different alternatives existing design and apply, much less expensive, and impacting. Despite the scale and importance of infrastructure, almost no one knows the bottom of the project, except for some detail on things already done, since in recent months and years, the active involvement of citizens, local government and independent experts in design processes and decision-making has flirted zero. The only institution that has made heavy reserves is the Emilia Romagna Region, which has developed a 53-page document on the project, not accepted by the Ministry in the opinion of the EIA. Nor can the various objections made to change things, since the same vertex of Centropadane said that there is no going back. If
we want to Cremona is one of many great little local cases, but it shows perfectly how we are sacrificing and sold off without flinching the most precious things we have: health, environment and quality of life. This model of development based on unlimited growth and profit, consider the territory as a mere inexhaustible resource and its protection and safeguarding the financial interests and often subject to speculation. We accept a deleterious mechanism that allows the sale of a collective heritage and exhaustible resources like soil and clean air to enrich various politicians and businessmen. Want to switch from one bank of the Po in a moment without finding code, but by destroying an entire ecosystem? The costs of progress, some may say. But to our lives and our future guests think? The very few who are moving but fighting against yet another layer of cement and yet another insult to the territory, are already labeled as the usual suckers environmentalists, "no professionals." Patience
we go forward.
